Its rituals involve the possession of the initiated by Orishas (gods); music and dance are essential to induce the trance that allows the god to enter the possessed body. Shot with 2 Red cameras.

‘Marionettes’ developed from a series of ‘dance for film’ workshops I gave to members of the Scottish Ballet Corps. Limor Ziv’s choreography and its puppet characters Pieretta and Puaro, are based on lyrics written by Hebrew poet Leah Goldberg, famously put to music by Achinoam Nini.

The film was shot over two mornings in my local 24 hour Tesco using a plentiful supply of Coca-Cola to stop the dancers slipping on the freshly polished floors.
